Emerging artist Qing Madi has unveiled her eagerly awaited debut album, entitled ‘I Am The Blueprint.’
Prior to this release, the multifaceted singer, dancer, and songwriter launched her self-titled EP in 2023, which featured successful tracks such as ‘American Love’ and ‘Ole,’ the latter including contributions from Bnxn.
With ‘I Am the Blueprint,’ Madi further solidifies her ascent in the music industry, presenting a remarkable compilation of songs that highlight her emotive vocal abilities and songwriting prowess, which notably exceeds her years.
Born Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma in Benin City, Nigeria, Madi was immersed in a rich musical environment, heavily influenced by American R&B and the intricate, socially conscious rap movement spearheaded by Kendrick Lamar.
While her current musical inspirations encompass Haitian konpa, French pop, and Afropop, R&B has been a defining element of her early musical journey.
“Where we used to live in Benin City, there was a bar that used to play real, real old-school music and contemporary R&B,” she tells Apple Music.
Spanning 13 tracks, Madi’s lyrics frequently explore the complexities and joys of romantic relationships, offering fresh perspectives on the timeless narrative of love’s ups and downs.
In this interview, the 18-year-old artist provided an in-depth analysis of each track on her debut album.
“‘Bucket List’ is an anthem of aspiration, an intimate glimpse into my deepest dreams and desires.
This song embodies my relentless pursuit of success while also painting a vivid picture of the milestones I am determined to achieve.
Getting a Grammy is such a huge award. It’s an honourable thing as a person, but I truly believe true art is based on what you create and how pure, and easy it is for the consumers and the fans.
On a personal note, I never qualify an artist’s hard work by awards. I think it’s great that we get rewarded for our efforts and socially accepted for our efforts.
But I really compare artists based on how true their art is, because not every time, not every award really depicts who an artist is. I’m not saying awards aren’t important.
I feel like they encourage an artist to do better. They also let the world know this person is who they are. However, I believe it can also promote competition, which I’m very against as an artist because I love when people come together and appreciate art.”
