Davido Adeleke, a legendary Afrobeat musician, exults over Rema, a younger colleague, who has achieved success in the United States.
O.B.O, as he is affectionately known by fans, expressed disbelief at how long Rema’s song “Calm Down” remained at the top of the U.S. charts during a recent interview on UAE’s #1 Music Station The Kris Fade Show.
The global expansion of Afrobeat, according to Davido, is beyond his wildest dreams, and he is thrilled to see artists like Rema succeeding all over the world.
“Years ago, I never thought a Nigerian artiste would have a Top 5 record in America. Rema has had Top 5 records in America for the past eight months, non-shaken,” he stated.
Rema’s song “Calm Down” and its remix with Selena Gomez recently made history by being the first Nigerian single to spend an entire year on U.S. Billboard.
