Nigerian artist May D has asserted that he once shared the same status as his peers, Wizkid and Davido. He stated that the three of them were regarded as the top artists in Nigeria several years ago. Furthermore, he claimed that at one time, he surpassed both of them in popularity.
In a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, May D remarked, “Then it was Wizkid, David, and I. I was even like bigger. Wetin be ‘Holla at Your Boy’ compared to ‘Soundtrack?’”
It is worth noting that May D has previously suggested that his Grammy-winning counterpart, Wizkid, would not have reached his current level of success had he not experienced a split from his former record label, Square Records.
May D gained recognition after joining Square Records in 2011, but it was announced in August 2012 that he had departed from the label. He believes that his fallout with P-Square had a significant impact on his career trajectory.
