Hip Hop singer Ladipo Eso, also known as Ladipoe, has said that when he first started music, he was told he wouldn’t be successful in Nigeria.
The Mavin Records artistes, who revealed this in an interview, claimed that some anonymous persons in the industry attempted to discourage him by disparaging his musical style.
According to Ladipoe, they advised him to relocate to another part of the world if he wanted to be a musician, but he ignored them, and now all of his songs have exceeded his expectations.
The popular rapper also claimed that he is pleased for how far he has gone as an artist, but he is not satisfied with his achievements so far.
He stated; “All my songs have exceeded my expectations. When I first started making music, I was told that because of my style, no one would ever listen to my songs here in Nigeria and that I should try elsewhere in the world.”“It is human nature for satisfaction to be elusive. I feel this applies twice as much to creative people, such as artistes like myself. I am grateful but not satisfied.”
In another part of the interview, Ladipoe discussed a moment when he got a disappointing reaction from fans during one of his performances in his early career.
He revealed; “I remember once, early in my career, I came on stage with so much energy and shouted into the microphone, ‘Who is ready for some more hip-hop’?. Meanwhile, that was a time when hip-hop music was facing serious fluctuation in its appeal.
“The overwhelming response from the crowd was, ‘no’. I remember being so deflated. To make matters worse, my band started off by playing the wrong song first, which further demoralized me. It was terrible. But, I look back now and laugh. I am grateful for growth.”
