An Oyo State High Court has approved a bail of N10 million for Naomi Silekunola, the former queen of the Ooni of Ife, in connection with the recent stampede in Ibadan.
Justice K.B. Olawoyin delivered the ruling on Monday, indicating that the bail conditions also extend to Oriyomi Hamzat, a media figure based in Ibadan, and Abdulahi Fasasi, the Principal of Islamic High School.
The Judge stipulated five conditions for the bail, which include the payment of N10 million and the provision of two sureties who must present landed documents located within the jurisdiction of the court.
On January 10, 2025, the state brought forth an eight-count indictment against Naomi Silekunola, the former spouse of the Ooni of Ife; Oriyomi Hamzat, the owner of an Ibadan radio station; and Abdulahi Fasasi, the school principal, encompassing charges of murder, manslaughter, and criminal negligence.
It is important to note that the three individuals were apprehended and subsequently charged following a tragic stampede during an event organized by Naomi, which resulted in the deaths of 35 children and left six others hospitalized on December 18, 2024.
