ICC Begins Investigation into War Crimes by Nigerian Security Forces.
ICC through the chief prosecutor has revealed that the tribunal is ready to begin investigating Nigerian security agencies for “crimes against humanity” and violations of the rules of war, according to TheCable.
ICC is an international tribunal indicting serious terrorism and human rights abuses. With Headquarter in Switzerland.
This comes at a time when there are wildly spread allegations that security forces in the northeast and other parts of Nigeria are abusing civilians.
Earlier the Office of Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has pinpointed 10 possible cases of human rights violations and war crimes in its end of the year report on preliminary examination activities.
TheCable reports that the document does not provide specific allegations or allegations to be investigated by the court, however, stating that “there is sufficient evidence to be investigated by the ICC. “

The crimes include:
“murder, rape, torture, and cruel treatment; enforced disappearance; forcible transfer of population; outrages upon personal dignity; intentionally directing attacks against the civilian population as such and against individual civilians not taking direct part in hostilities; unlawful imprisonment; conscripting and enlisting children under the age of fifteen years into armed forces and using them to participate actively in hostilities; persecution on gender and political grounds; and other inhumane acts”.
