Nigerian billionaire and energy mogul Arthur Eze, CEO of Atlas Oranto Petroleum, made headlines at the launch of A Journey in Service, the autobiography of former military president General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB). The grand event, held in Abuja on Thursday, February 20, brought together Nigeria’s political elite and business heavyweights, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Taking the podium with his signature charisma, Eze reflected on Babangida’s instrumental role in shaping his business success. With a voice tinged with nostalgia, he recounted the former leader’s sacrifices and mentorship, which helped him become a dominant force in Nigeria’s energy sector.
Then came the moment that stunned the audience—Eze pledged a staggering N500 million, drawing applause from the distinguished guests. Videographers captured a telling moment as Babangida and Tinubu exchanged smile following the announcement.

Eze’s generosity was just a fraction of the overwhelming support Babangida received, with donations reaching nearly N17 billion by the end of the evening.
Aliko Dangote led the charge with a monumental N8 billion pledge, committing N2 billion annually over four years.
Abdulsamad Rabiu followed closely with a bold N5 billion donation.
Other prominent figures, including business tycoon Folorunsho Alakija, also contributed, though some preferred to keep their exact figures undisclosed.
Beyond the spectacle of wealth and goodwill, Babangida’s book launch left a lasting impact, with his revelations sparking discussions across Nigeria’s political landscape.
