“I’m not going to run from the entertainment industry because it’s in the grip of Satan” – Actor Patrick Doyl

Actor and broadcaster Patrick Doyle has stated that he will not leave the entertainment industry since it is in the grip of Satan.

In a recent interview with QEDNG publisher Olumide Iyanda, the Oloture actor stated that he despises iniquity and cannot be found in settings where depravity is prevalent.

“I hate iniquity. I’m not being sanctimonious. Whilst we were filming Oloture they were a lot of smooching going on, I ‘raped’ someone in the movie. For me it was work because I also knew that the character was going to get a comeuppance so I consoled myself that ‘Yea, you can do a bad guy role but the bad guy is going to get his comeuppance’. So you can say this is what you get when you do that,” he said.

Commenting on the claimed conflict of interest between his beliefs and the entertainment industry after criticizing BET last month for awarding Tems, a secular musician, in the gospel category, the 63-year-old remarked, “There is no conflict. I have a duty to occupy. My mandate is to occupy till Jesus comes. The entertainment industry is for the most part in the grip of Satan. But I am the salt of the earth. I’m not going to run from the entertainment industry because it’s in the grip of Satan. I’m going to go there and be an example.”

Patrick stated that he devoted his life to Jesus in 1987 and that his Christian experience has been eye-opening.

The actor explained why he appears to be performing a variety of roles these days, claiming that filmmakers today are more sophisticated than in the past.

However, he said that he enjoys playing the role of a nice father in movies.

“To be honest, doing the bad man role was very exciting. Being the villain was exciting for me because it was not something I was used to but the role that I personally like the most is the role of the father like in Isoken, the patriarchy role, good guy taking care of his children and dishing out sound advice. That role is one I particularly like for myself,” he said.

According to Patrick, he is usually less busy, not because he is picky about roles, but because movies increasingly cater to younger audiences.

“It’s a new world, it’s a world for the young people, the Tobi Bakres. The stories are more contemporaries and tilted to suit them,” he said, adding that this is not to mean that individuals in his demographic are not busy than him.

Patrick commented on his command of the Yoruba language, revealing that he played a king in a soon-to-be-released Yoruba film, is Itsekiri, and speaks “original Yoruba”.
