Comedian Bright Okpocha, widely recognized by his stage name Basketmouth, has made a significant foray into the film industry with the release of his debut feature film, Ghetto Love Story.

In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, the esteemed comedian articulated his passion for filmmaking, asserting that it surpasses all other endeavors.

He said, “In actual fact, it’s been a plan all along. I knew I was going to end up in the movies. So when I started comedy, I went to TV, and all along, I knew I was going to end up in movies. I enjoy making movies. So, transitioning was easy because it was already in the plan. I can make it because, by default, I’m already a storyteller based on the fact that I do comedy.”

Furthermore, he clarified that his motivation for producing the film was not financial gain.

“I didn’t do this movie to make money but to create art and excellence. But if it does, by the grace of God, I’ll make the money back, and if it doesn’t, I’ll challenge myself with this project.”

Okpocha also disclosed that he encountered considerable financial obstacles during the production, with expenses increasing by 20 percent due to market volatility. Nevertheless, he emphasized his commitment to maintaining high standards, stating, “I’d rather challenge myself to create something exceptional.”

He reassured his audience that while he has more films in the pipeline, his primary focus remains on comedy.

“Next year, I’m going on tour. I have my UK and US tours, and I’m going to have my show here in Nigeria,” he stated.
