Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has stated that he has not yet made a decision regarding his participation in the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku shared this during an interview on Untold Stories, a yet-to-be-aired television program hosted by Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie.
The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate has recently played a key role in forming an opposition coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next general election. However, uncertainty remains about who will lead the alliance, with notable figures like former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi and ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai being considered.
When asked about his potential candidacy in 2027, Atiku remarked, “I don’t know because there has to be, first of all, a viable platform, more than any other time in the political history of this country, particularly since the return of democracy.”
Despite his hesitation, Atiku—who has run for the presidency six times—has not ruled out another attempt.
“I have not seen Nigeria in such dire need of experienced and credible leadership as it is now. We had a similar merger in 2014. About three or four of us contested for president, and we all supported the one who emerged, and he won,” he added.
