A video circulating online shows Nigerian athlete Favour Ofili breaking down in tears after coming sixth in the women’s 200-meter final at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Ofili, who is 21 years old, was qualified for the women’s 200-meter final after coming first in the heats and second in the quarterfinal behind Julien Alfred.
On August 5, Ofili wowed with a season-best time of 22.05 seconds, finishing second and raising expectations for a podium spot.
She did, however, lose to Gabby Thomas of the United States in the final, clocking 22.24 seconds and therefore eliminating her dreams of winning an Olympic gold. Gabrielle Thomas of the United States won gold in an incredible 21.83 seconds, followed by Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia in silver and Brittany Brown of the United States in bronze.
Favour Ofili could not contain her emotions as she burst into tears after finishing sixth in the women’s 200 metres final.
In the video, she can be seen crying uncontrollably and saying, ‘I am so tired’ as her close friends commiserate with her.
The video sparked emotions online, as Nigerians consoled Favour Ofili, sharingtheir thoughts online.

Nobody was there to contest it for her, she really struggled and put in her best.
