Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha’s 2-Storey building, located at No. 63 Cathedral Road, has been marked for demolition.
This disclosure was made by Maurice Ajoku, Media Consultant to the Chairman of the Demolition Taskforce, Simon Iwunze.
Recall, that for some time now, Rochas Okorocha has embarked on demotion exercise to restore the lost glory of Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Iwunze said the building would go down to show that the government meant business with its Urban Renewal Programme.
Iwunze explained that houses illegally built or built without approved plans, and those built on wrong places now blocking drainages, would also go down.
According to Iwunze, old houses or ancient houses that have lost their strength over the years, would also not be spared, at least to prevent such houses from claiming lives, since a stitch in time saves nine; adding that, some of the old houses are even at the verge of collapse.
Iwunze stated that the government is determined to give Owerri, a status befitting of a State capital, and would not therefore, relent in its urban renewal programme, adding that, the activities of the Taskforce would begin from Wetheral Road to Okigwe Road, and the essence is to recover the Master Plan.
He appealed for the cooperation and understanding of residents, since the programme is in the overall interest of the State and her people.
