An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated four terrorists belonging to the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) near San-San village in the Mobbor local government area of Borno State.

According to Gistlover, the terrorists’ device turned on them on Wednesday when they were laying it close to the 5 Brigade’s marching route, splintering their bodies into fragments.

In the meantime, terrorists planted another IED near Chetimari hamlet, according to soldiers of MNJTF Sector 4 stationed in Chetima Wongonu.

Before the incident, suspected ISWAP militants fired at night in Chetimari in an attempt to entice the soldiers into an IED trap.

But the soldiers refused to surrender, and at around 6:30 p.m., they found the IED, which was then detonated.

Zagazola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad region, learned from sources that the insurgents had increased their use of IEDs as a counter-offensive against the military despite suffering significant tactical defeats and losing land, supplies, and personnel.

“The terrorists deployed PBIEDs (person borne IEDs), VBIEDs (vehicle borne IEDs), remote control and timed devices, in defensive positions or for ambushes.

“The tactical use of IEDs to defend enemy positions as well as ambush friendly and allied forces lines of communication is likely to continue and in some sectors become the only form of combat as Boko Haram becomes increasingly incapable of mounting major combat operations,” a source stated
