Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck after two years of marriage, court documents documents.
Lopez and Affleck, who were engaged before their high-profile split in 2004, wedded in Las Vegas in July 2022.
According to the Standard, Lopez filed legal documents at the Los Angeles County Superior legal on Tuesday, marking the second anniversary of the couple’s traditional wedding ceremony in Georgia.
The divorce petition brought an end to months of speculation regarding their marital status.
It should be noted that Lopez and Affleck got engaged in 2002 and quickly became one of Hollywood’s most talked-about couples, dubbed “Bennifer” by the press.
They had planned to marry in September 2003, but the marriage was postponed just days before. The pair finally called off their engagement in January 2004.
Lopez later described it as “the biggest heartbreak of my life”.
The actress-turned-musician formally confirmed her reunion with Affleck in an Instagram post for her 52nd birthday, when she shared a photo of them kissing on a private yacht.
Lopez stated in April 2022, 18 years after the pair called off their wedding, that she was once again engaged to Affleck.
She posted a video of herself crying with pleasure on social media while admiring a beautiful green engagement ring.
The couple’s restored relationship inspired Lopez’s 2024 album This Is Me…Now and accompanying genre-defying musical spectacle, which included Affleck alongside luminaries such as Jane Fonda, Sofia Vergara, and Post Malone.
Affleck is Lopez’s fourth spouse; her most renowned marriage was to fellow singer Marc Anthony, with whom she has 16-year-old twins Max and Emme.
