Jerry Rawlings: Ghana Begins Funeral for Ex-President.
The Former Ghanaian President Jerry Rawlings will be buried in Accra on Wednesday, security is being tightened for protection of loved ones and funeral attendees.
The Ghana’s longest-serving president, Rawlings, died in November last year at the age of 73 after a short illness.
The Funeral services began at the church in the capital on Sunday.
Rawlings will be buried on Wednesday, attended by other world leaders.
Soldiers, since last week, have been patrolling the venue of the funeral ceremony and it’s environ. The funeral will be held at the Independence Square, which is a symbol of Ghana’s victory over colonial Britain
The funeral was earlier scheduled to take place in December, however, it got postponed due to differences between the country’s political leaders.
Rawlings ruled Ghana’s military government for more than 10 years after a coup he led between 1979 and 1981 and returned the country to democracy in 1992.
