- Pastor David Ibiyeomie, a prominent preacher, argues that Jesus did not show much affection for the poor.
- During a recent worship session with his church members, he made this statement.

Renowned Nigerian preacher, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has stirred controversy following a recent statement suggesting that Jesus never liked poor people.
He made this claim during a church service, where he addressed his congregation on the importance of rejecting a poverty mindset. According to Ibiyeomie, biblical references show that Jesus often associated with wealthy individuals and rarely visited the poor.
Backing his argument with scripture, the clergyman emphasized that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was not only for salvation but also to free believers from the bondage of poverty. He urged Christians to adopt a mindset of abundance, insisting that being poor contradicts God’s will for His people.
He said in part …
“Jesus never visited any poor person in the house, read your bible. That means he hates poverty. Check, he visited Lazarus, they were not poor, they were giving him food. He visited a sinner called Zacchaeus who was rich; Tell me the one poor man Jesus entered his house; he hates poverty that what it means, he hates people who are poor. He died for you not to be poor, so how can you now coming to church have that kind of mentality. You can come poor, but you are not permitted to remain poor….”
