Just In: 2021 Budget Passed By the Senate.
The Nigerian Senate after several months has passed The 2021 appropriation bill which was presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammdu Buhari.
The budget was passed by the upper chamber during a plenary on Monday, December 21, after being read for the third time.
The budget was submitted to the National Assembly in October and passed in December after the thorough handling by various committees of the upper legislative chamber.
President Muhammadu Buhari had presented proposed N13. 08 trillion budget to the lawmakers of both legislative chambers.
Speaking on the development, Senate president Ahmad Lawan praised the lawmakers for meeting the deadline and prompt response to the budget.
Lawan, doubles as the president of the National Assembly, also commended the heads of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) for defending their allocations.
The Senate president also expressed confidence in the budget supporting the public expenditure despite the coronavirus pandemic which is responsible for the economic crisis.
“Let me, first of all, congratulate all of us for working so hard to ensure that we meet the deadline of passing the 2021 Budget before we go on Christmas break.
“Let me also congratulate the House of Representatives, our counterpart who are doing the same thing like we are doing here. Let me also commend the Executive like they did last year that no Head of Department, Ministry or Agency should travel out of the country without defending their budget.
“For Nigerians, this Budget that has been passed is to ensure that our economy is supported fully through public expenditure.”
