Controversial Nigerian street pop artist Habeeb Okikiola Olalomi, widely recognized as Portable, has appeared before the Isabo High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The police had issued a wanted notice for Portable on February 18 in connection with an alleged assault on three officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA).
These officials had reportedly gone to his establishment to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
After turning himself in to the police in Lagos on Wednesday, Portable was subsequently transferred to the Ogun State Police Command and brought to court on Thursday.
The incident in question took place on February 5, when OGPDPA officials attempted to close Portable’s bar due to the absence of necessary permits and inadequate airspace clearance.
The singer is accused of orchestrating a violent attack on the government officials, who were injured but managed to escape.
In the aftermath of the assault, authorities apprehended and charged nine of Portable’s associates with various offenses, including felony, armed violence, obstruction, assault, and attempted murder.
This case has ignited public discourse, with many advocating for stringent legal repercussions, while others emphasize the importance of adhering to due process in addressing the matter. The court proceedings are currently ongoing.
