Sensational striker Odion Ighalo has spoken on the state of his health as the Super Eagles prepares to face Cameroon in the second fixtures of the Africa’s World Cup Qualifiers on Monday.
Ighalo scored the first goal for the Super Eagles in the first fixtures of the twin match that was played in Uyo on Friday. But, the 28- year old strong striker left the pitch in the 60th minute for Kelechi Iheanacho having endured several innocuous kicks from the Cameroonians.
Ighalo, who hobbled off with an ice pack after the barnstorming performance in Nigeria’s 4-0 destruction of Cameroon, has however assured that the injury is nothing serious.
“It was just a tight hamstring, but I am fine now,” Ighalo said.
As Nigerians however feel relieved about Ighalo’s fitness, a sanctions from FIFA for the sensational striker’s yellow card after his goal celebration is still in record.
Recall that after netting the opening goal in the Super Eagles’ 4-0 victory over Cameroon in Uyo, the Nigerian Chinese club Changchun Yatai F.C’s player lifted his shirt to reveal a message, and that was instantly booked by the Egyptian referee, Ghead Grisha.
Displaying unsanctioned commercial, political, religious or personal slogans or statements in undershirts are outlawed by FIFA and subject to additional sanction, mainly fines.
Referee Grisha is expected to include the incident in his report for further action by FIFA.
But Ighalo has explained that “the message on my shirt was about religion because it’s ‘thank you Jesus’,” he said.
