#JusticeforDavid: new details emerge on how Sound engineer was burnt to death by Hausa bike riders in Lekki over N100

Days back, a sound engineer simply known as David was burnt to death by Hausa bike riders (Abokis), at Admiralty way, in Lekki phase 1, Lagos.

It was gathered that David, a sound engineer and two of his colleagues, Phillip and Frank; one of them a saxophonist and the other a keyboard player, were attacked by the mob but he lost his life while others sustained serious injuries.

It started when Philip got into an argument with a commercial motorcyclist over N100. The motorcyclist asked to be paid N300 but Philip said he would pay N200, and then a fight ensued.

“That is how the other okada man began to gather his colleagues. They started to beat Frank and Philip. Meanwhile, the third member of the band David was already inside the event centre setting up sound.

“He heard what was happening and ran outside to stop the fight. Before you know it they began to beat him too,” he said.

One Ope King on twitter disclosed thus “This is my brother-in-law! One of the nicest people I have ever met. Brutally and unjustly killed by Hausa Bike-men because he was having a misunderstanding with one of their bikeman. Lagos is no longer safe. Hausa people are armed! They are wicked”

Another tweet by on Ufuoma (@thecoloredpen), also corroborated the claims, saying, “#JusticeforDavid killed in Lagos over #100 change #JusticeForDeborahSamuel killed in Sokoto #JusticeforPhillipandFrank fighting for their lives in the hospital. ”

She added, “A group of musicians in Lagos had “regular” to play at Beer-bar along Admiralty road that evening. The sound engineer and keyboard player who mounted the same bike had an argument with the okada man (an aboki guy) which resulted in what became a cold-blooded night.

“The other okada riders (that were of the same tribe) came out and tried to avenge their “brother”. To cut the long story short, thy were beaten to a pulp and the sound engineer lost his life right there. “As if that was not enough, the sound engineer was burnt right there on the road. To make matters worse, the saxophonist that was to play for the night heard about what was happening while the fight just ensued and he went to try to settle not having a full grasp of what was really going on.

“He was the sound engineer in my church. See how his life ended because of N100 change. Sometimes I wonder if the country Nigeria even started.”

A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media. The video captured where one of the mob was pouring petrol-like substance on David’s body.

The incident occurred the same day a student in Sokoto Deborah Samuel was lynched and burnt alive for allegedly blaspheming against Prophet Muhammad.

Spokesman of the police Benjamin Hundeyin said the person who was pouring the petrol-like substance is the main suspect who is on the run.

“It is true. Our men acted promptly. Four suspects have been arrested. We have launched a manhunt for others involved.

“The police will ensure prosecution of everyone involved. We will keep advocating against jungle justice. We also urge parents, religious and political leaders to join the advocacy against jungle justice,” he said.
