US Vice President Kamala Harris raised a record-breaking $81 million for her presidential campaign in the first 24 hours after President Biden revealed his decision not to seek reelection and subsequently endorsed her.
According to Harris’ campaign, more than 880,000 people donated to his campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising organizations.
“The historic outpouring of support for Vice President Harris represents exactly the kind of grassroots energy and enthusiasm that wins elections,” Harris campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz said in a statement. “Already, we are seeing a broad and diverse coalition come together to support our critical work of talking to the voters that will decide this election.”
Munoz continued: “Donald Trump is terrified because he knows his divisive, unpopular agenda can’t stand up to the Vice President’s record and vision for the American people.”
It is the greatest 24-hour total registered by any side during the 2024 campaign.
The money raised for the Biden-Harris ticket were moved to Harris’ new presidential campaign. According to the Federal Election Commission, the ticket raised $296 million through June 30, compared to $221 million for Trump.
Speaking to campaign personnel in Wilmington, Delaware, Harris recognized the “rollercoaster” of the previous weeks while expressing confidence in her new campaign team.
“It is my intention to go out and earn this nomination and to win,” she said.
Her campaign pledge was to “unite our Democratic Party, to unite our nation, and to win this election.”
