Nigerians react as Kano state government relaxes lockdown to enable residents shop for Ramadan despite increase in COVID-19 cases
Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has relaxed the lockdown in the state from 6am to 12pm for today Thursday April 23, to enable residents shop for Ramadan.
This decision comes even as the state records more cases of COVID-19. Kano state currently has 73 confirmed cases of the viral disease and as at yesterday April 22nd, testing was put on hold because the state had run out of testing kits.
Announcing the relaxation of the lockdown, the deputy governor of the state, Nasiru Gawuna, said
“In view of preparation for Ramadan period, the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has relaxed the ongoing lockdown from 6am-12pm on Thursday to enable people buy necessary foodstuff and items needed for Ramadan period which is expected to commence on Friday,”
