Music executive Soso Soberekon has disclosed the circumstances surrounding Iyanya’s discovery by KCee several years ago in Calabar, Cross River State, highlighting the significant influence the Limpopo singer had on the Kukere artist’s rise to fame.
Soberekon, who previously served as a music producer and was KCee’s former manager, shared this information during a live discussion with media figure Daddy Freeze.
He also had KCee on the phone during the chat to back up the story.
Soberekon recounted that Iyanya was performing at a karaoke event in Calabar when KCee noticed him, approached him, and proposed to take him to Lagos to further his music career.
“We had to meet his parents for approval before he could travel with us,” KCee recalled. “We were already at the airport when he called to say his parents had finally agreed because they initially refused.
Soberekon additionally revealed that following his victory in Project Fame West Africa in 2008, Iyanya resided in KCee’s home for a duration of four years, where he had to sleep on the couch due to space constraints.
“He slept on the couch for four years because there was no extra room at the time. KCee’s family was living in the house, so the only available space was the couch, he wrote two songs for Kcee Presh then and both were produced by me,” he clarified.
