In the Kogi State local government area of Igalamela, troops on election duty have detained a local government council chairman and multiple other individuals.
The council chairman and the other individuals detained, according to SaharaReporters, had a lot of cash and ammunition with them.
The military seized a sizable stash of ammunition together with millions of naira in cash.
The arrest took place during Kogi State’s election for the state’s future governor.
The accused can be seen sitting on the ground close to an army roadblock in a video obtained by Naija News.
The council chairman and those with him were seen in a widely shared video apologizing and requesting forgiveness, but the soldiers refused to comply.
They reportedly confessed that the money was meant for distribution to voters at different polling units within the local government area and Idah area during the governorship election.
