In response to an alleged attack on a police officer during a political altercation in the state’s Idah Local Government Area, Bethrand Onuoha, the commissioner of police for Kogi, ordered an investigation on Thursday.
SP Williams Ovye-Aya, the state command’s public relations officer, said in a statement that the CP was concerned about a viral video showing the police officer seriously hurt.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department was given the assignment to take the case and launch an immediate investigation after Onuoha denounced the incident.
The CP reaffirmed the command’s unwavering dedication to keeping key stakeholders involved in Election Security Management in order to create a safe environment for the voting process.
“This command is ever determined to provide a level playing ground for all political parties as they embark on campaigns, rallies, processions, among others.
“But all would-be trouble makers who are hell-bent on causing violence to undermine the credibility of the electoral process in the state should stay away from such acts or face the wrath of the police.
“This is because we are in synergy with other security agencies in election security management and will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone caught disrupting the electoral process, ” the CP warned.
