Lagos gov promise to donate land for more naval bases

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has promised that his administration will continue to support the Nigerian Navy and that the state is willing to provide it with land on which to erect further bases.

On Tuesday, Sanwo-Olu received the delegation of the Nigerian Navy, led by Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, a courtesy visit to the Lagos House, Marina, and assured them that his government would continue to give the Navy the support it needs to improve the security of people’s lives and property in the state.

“It is important that we all see that both economically and security-wise, Lagos continues to remain home for all of us and for the economic growth of the country.

“We are also happy that you acknowledged all of our modest efforts at ensuring that you have land to develop your various base locations and to be able to enhance the security architecture of the state.

“We will ensure that whatever remains to consummate the formal handing over of those pieces of land is done quickly so that you can fully take possession and you can develop those security infrastructure and bases for your men,” the governor said.

He assured the navy chief that “you have a government here and you can always knock on our door and we’ll see what support and what are the things we need to continue to do to ensure that your work and all of your men receive the necessary interventions of our government

Earlier, the navy boss, who thanked the governor for his support so far, noted that “Lagos State is very strategic to the Nigerian Navy because this is the cradle of the Nigerian Navy. You’ll recall that the Nigerian Navy started from the Lagos Marine Department of the NPA in Lagos here. And our first bases started from Lagos and, therefore, most naval officers see Lagos as their first home, including myself.”
