The Lagos State Police Command’s Ojo Division officers have taken two individuals into custody, 42-year-old Magnus Nwonka and 35-year-old Imo Lawrence, for allegedly possessing counterfeit beverages.
This was revealed in a video that Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s public relations officer, posted on his X Twitter on Wednesday.
Buckets, crates of beverages, bags of satchet water, and other objects were seen in a dirty setting in the video.
Hundeyin wrote, “Officers of Ojo Division today arrested the duo of Imo Lawrence ‘m’ aged 35 and Magnus Nwonka ‘m’ aged 42 in possession of fake drinks.
” In the course of investigation, the suspects led detectives to their inconspicuous, multi-room ‘factory.’ Investigation is ongoing.”
According to The PUNCH, counterfeiters engaged in the production of various counterfeit beverages, such as wines, soft drinks, and other items valued at over N750,000,000, were recently apprehended by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control in the Eziukwu market in Aba, Abia state.
Social media has also been used by Nigerians to bemoan the rise in phony goods in the nation’s marketplaces and retail establishments.
