LASTMA to sue film, skit makers over unofficial use of its uniforms, kits

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has threatened to charge film and skit creators for using its uniforms and kits without permission.

While delivering this threat, LASTMA’s management proclaimed the unlawful use of its uniforms, kits, and other accessories by film and skit makers illegal in a press statement signed by its spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq.

According to Taofiq, the General Manager (GM) of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, disapproved at the disparaging portrayal of the institution in movies and comedies.

Oreagba also expressed concern about how they use LASTMA uniforms without referring to Section 79 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which criminalizes such illegal use.

He stated this after watching a fully outfitted actress in a LASTMA uniform in a Nollywood film titled ‘Gbogbo Lowo’ and other spoof movies on various social media platforms.

According to Taofiq’s statement, Oreagba advised film or skit makers who portray Lastma Officers without first applying for and receiving a permit letter for such portrayals to stop immediately or face the full wrath of the law.

He argues that such sobriety in filmmaking, as well as control of the possession and use of Lastma uniforms, will undoubtedly reduce the spread of Lastma kits, uniforms, and accoutrements in society.

“We implore the National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTA) and other affiliated bodies to warn their members as anyone caught using Lastma Uniform without an approved permit would be prosecuted,” the LASTMA boss asserted.
