Tochi Wigwe, the daughter of the late Herbert Wigwe, gave a touching speech at the first matriculation ceremony of Wigwe University, which her father established.
The ceremony took place on November 14, 2024, just a few weeks after the university started its academic year.
Wigwe University began its journey about 240 days after the sad loss of its founder, Herbert Wigwe, who was the former CEO of Access Bank.
This event marked the official welcome for new students nearly a month after the university opened.
Eugene Abels, who attended the event, uploaded a video of Tochi Wigwe’s heartfelt speech on his Facebook page, marking a memorable occasion.
Tochi Wigwe took the stage, warmly addressing the audience and introducing herself. Representing her family, she thanked the students and guests for joining them.
She celebrated the students’ creativity, mentioning how their TikTok videos bring her joy every day. After her speech, she posed for photos with the students, deepening her ties with the vibrant student community.
Tochi said: “I must confess, I’m constantly watching your TikToks and honestly; they make me smile everyday. You guys are so creative; so full of energy its honestly contagious.”
In her speech, Tochi Wigwe talked about three important lessons she has learned in her life, giving advice to motivate the students as they start their studies.
In her words; “Number one, you only miss opportunities you do not take. Number two, you’re so much stronger and braver than you ever think. And the final one, God will never give you a battle you are not equipped to handle.”
Tochi Wigwe got emotional near the end of her speech, crying as she urged the students to “show up and show out” in everything they do. Her sincere message made a strong impact on the audience.
