1. Despite Yahaya Bello’s Denial, Kogi will Receive COVID-19 Vaccines
The Kogi State Government has expressed readiness to receive the AstraZeneca/ Oxford COVID-19 vaccines given to the state by the Federal Government.
Gistlover reports that this was made known by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo.
The Commissioner however stated that the state government won’t force anyone to take a jab of the vaccine except for those who are willing.
2. FG Reveals Plans to Reduce Fuel pump price
The Federal Government on Wednesday revealed plans to reduce the price of petroleum below N100 per litre across the country.
The Senior Special Assistant on Niger Delta Affairs to President Muhammadu Buhari, Ita Enang, said the price will be reduced when Nigeria refines the products locally.
Enang while speaking at a press conference in Abuja, said the presidency in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, has concluded plans to hold a national conference on integrating artisanal/modular petroleum refinery operations aimed at improving the capacity of the products and crashing the prices of petroleum products.
He further stated that the conference will help to integrate local refining capacity into refining petroleum products.
3. Minimum Wage: NLC, TUC Storm Abuja Streets in Protest
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), on Wednesday, took over some major streets in Abuja in protest of a proposed amendment by the National Assembly to the minimum wage of workers in Nigeria.
The protest kicked off from the Unity Fountain and attracted a large number of people who came out to demand the bill before the National Assembly seeking to remove the Minimum Wage from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent Legislative List be dropped.
The protest had other members of the organized union in Nigeria and headed for the National Assembly to make their grievances known to the lawmakers.
4. Return £4.2m Ibori Loot to Delta State – Reps Tell FG
President Muhammadu Buhari-led government on Wednesday was charged by the House of Representatives to return the £4.2million Ibori loot to Delta State.
The lawmakers in their statement on Wednesday noted that the funds were looted from Delta State and should be rightly returned to the state.
They further stated that funds are needed for the infrastructural development of the state.
The decision was reached after a motion of urgent public importance which was sponsored by all the lawmakers from Delta State.
The lawmakers representing Delta State, however, stated that the total money is £6.2 million and not £4.2 million as is being reported.
5. We Won’t Enact Any Law against Nigerian Workers – House of Reps
The House of Representatives has said that the National Assembly would not enact any legislation against Nigerian workers.
Majority Leader, Hon. Ado Doguwa made this known while addressing hundreds of workers under the aegis of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), on Wednesday, who stormed the National Assembly.
He advised the organised labour to lobby their representatives at the National Assembly to kill the proposed transfer of the minimum wage from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent List.
Doguwa applauded the workers for their peaceful protest and hailed them f0r channelling their grievances through the right channel.
6. Court Prevents Lawyer From Withdrawing From Maina’s Case
A federal high court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday prevented a lawyer, Sani Katu (SAN) from withdrawing as one of the counsels to Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT).
The lawyer had approached the court in an oral application to withdraw from the case.
Recall that Maina alongside his firm – Common Input Property and Investment Limited – are answering a 12-count N2bn money laundering charge brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
At the resumed proceedings in the case on Wednesday, Katu notified the trial court of his decision to pull out from the case. Immediately the matter was called, the senior lawyer, made his application.
However, ruling on the application, the presiding judge, Okon Abang, held that the senior advocate failed to comply with the provisions of the law, adding that the court can’t base its decision on what was discussed off record between the two lawyers.
He further accused Katu of bringing his application in bad faith.
7. Kano People Prefer Hisbah To Police – Ex-governor, Shekarau
A former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, on Wednesday noted that the people of the state prefer Hisbah corps to the Nigeria Police Force.
Shekarau while speaking during an interview with Channels TV said community policing is important in ending security issues in the country.
He said, “Security is the business of every citizen, and that is why the issue of community policing as far as I’m concerned, is the key.”
8. Iskilu Wakili: Be Wary Of Fani-Kayode, OPC Warns Sunday Igboho
The Oodua People Congress (OPC) has warned popular Yoruba activist, Sunday ‘Igboho’ Adeyemo against trusting the former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani Kayode.
Oyo state coordinator of the OPC, Comrade Rotimi Olumo, gave the warning in an interview with reporters on Wednesday.
Olumo advised Igboho to be wary of Fani- Kayode’s antic and deceit because he is so smart in causing disunity in Yorubaland.
He said: “I am using this opportunity to advise my brother, Sunday Igboho to be wary of Fani- Kayode’s antic and deceit because he is so smart in causing disunity in Yorubaland”.
9. Okorocha Questions Uzodinma after Meeting VP Osinbajo
Senator Rochas Okorocha has stated that he does not want the feud between him and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State to escalate over the sealing of some of his properties.
He stated this to newsmen shortly after meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday.
Recall that Okorocha, a former Imo governor, has been at loggerheads with Uzodinma, which escalated when the lawmaker was arrested for unsealing a property seized by the state government.
But Okorocha has been left wondering what he did wrong to move Governor Uzodinma to clampdown on him and members of the family.
He said: “The question is ‘what wrong has Rochas done?’ Have I done any wrong bringing APC to the south-east? And when I built APC, none of these people were there. They were all in PDP.
10. “They Deceived Us With Repentance To Get More Money” – Gov. Bello Speaks On Bandits
Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello of Niger State has disclosed that bandits who lied to the state that they have repented did that to get money to acquire more weapons for their criminal activities.
The Niger State governor stated this on Wednesday during a meeting with vigilante group at Mariga local government.
Sani-Bello stated that the state government had stopped all forms of dialogues with bandits owing to their trickery.
”From experience, it has been discovered that the repentant bandits, after collecting cash from the dialogue option, they will purchase more weapons and return to their old ways of banditry,” he said.
