Less than 24hrs after Ekiti Election EFCC Reopens All Fraud Case against Gov. Fayose

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has reacted to the result of the Governorship election which took place in Ekiti State yesterday.

In a tweet addressed to Governor Fayose of Ekiti State less than 24hours after his party was defeated in the gubernatorial election, the anti-graft agency stated that the Governor whose cloak of immunity has been torn apart, will have to answer questions about N1.3bn fraud on Ekiti Integrated Poultry Project/Biological Concepts Limited.

EFCC’s tweet reads;

The parri is over; the cloak of immunity torn apart, and the staff broken. Ekiti Integrated Poultry Project/Biological Concepts Limited N1.3bn fraud case file dusted off the shelves. See you soon.

This case has been on since 2005, but became a pending case due to the immunity. There’s nothing new here.

Though the tweet has been deleted, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s spokesperson, Reno Omokri who reacted to the tweet wrote;

To those who think the @officialEFCC is neutral, this tweet (which they have now deleted, but which we screenshot) shows you what @GovAyoFayose and the @OfficialPDPNig were up against. Don’t cry for Fayose Nigeria. Cry for yourselves. Can the EFCC say this about any APC Governor?

Few months ago also, the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti state has dismissed claims by Governor Ayo Fayose that he has been discharged and acquitted by the Federal High Court over an alleged N1.3bn poultry project.

According to The Punch, the state publicity secretary of the party, Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement on Thursday, July 21, said the fraud case instituted against Fayose by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2005 is still pending at the Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti. Olatunbosun said the governor has been misleading the public for long about the status of the case, adding that the case was never dismissed, but was only transferred from Lagos to the Ado Ekiti division of the court for jurisdiction.

The state APC spokesperson challenged the governor, to provide the court’s enrollment order discharging him on the poultry project case to convince the public.
