The Nigeria Police Force says its investigation shows that Boko Haram, Ansaru and other terror groups are getting support from some Nigerians.
Mr Ibrahim Kaoje, Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State, has said that the police and local government authorities are working together in the fight against insecurity in the state.
Kaoje who made the statement while addressing security stakeholders in Sokoto on Tuesday said that such synergy was necessary to deepen the anti insecurity crusade.
He said it was the duty of every stakeholder to support the security agencies by providing information that would be useful in detecting crime.
“We can send them away if we do things correctly, the people we refer to as bandits are mere criminals that can be collectively tackled
“I can tell you that tremendous breakthrough has been recorded following sustained joint operations by security agencies, ” he said.
Newsmen report that council Sole Administrators who spoke at the meeting said that criminals were still maintaining hideouts in some forests in the state.
They expressed their readiness to support the activities of the security agencies in ensuring that criminals were sent out of the state.
NAN reports that the meeting was attended by Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, traditional rulers, farmers associations, representatives of vigilance groups and local government council leadership.
