Nollywood actress Lizzy Gold has expressed her apologies to the Igbo community after a video of her in a masquerade outfit went viral.
She clarified that she did not intend to offend anyone and shared her passion for epic films, mentioning that this was her second time wearing such a costume.
Lizzy explained that she donned the masquerade outfit for a film role and performed a cleansing ritual with alligator pepper before praying and putting it on.
In her appeal for forgiveness from the Igbo community, the actress recognized that there were moments when she got too deep into her character and crossed lines.
She also referenced her Christian roots while addressing the fallout another actress experienced for wearing a masquerade costume.
“I’m sorry to all the Igbo people, the Igbo soil has blessed me a whole lot and I have no right to disrespect your culture and tradition. But it was for a movie. You know, everyone knows I love epic stories. I love to tell epic deep stories and sometimes when I get into character, I I forget and cross some boundaries,” she said in part.
Lizzy’s apology video follows criticism on social media for her choice to wear a masquerade costume as a woman.
