Habu Ibrahim, a 40-year-old Jigawa state native, was reportedly planning to poison his wife to get her riches instead of letting her die.
The sad event took place in Danadama village, Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area, according to the Jigawa State police command.
A T. Abdullahi, the Commissioner of State Police, claims that the suspect poisoned foods and drink intended for his 35-year-old wife Zakiya Uzairu in order to get ownership of her livestock, which includes goats, sheep, and cows.
Abdullahi disclosed that Ibrahim had been arrested on the spot by detectives who moved quickly to investigate the information they received at the Sule Tankarkar Division.
According to the commissioner, the suspect confessed to the act when he was questioned at the Divisional Police office in Sule Tankarkar.
He said that the accused was thereafter moved for additional investigation to the state capital of Dutse, where the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is located.
Abdullahi said; “During the interrogation, the suspect willingly confessed to the crime, confirming the accuracy of the information provided to the police.
“He admitted to intending to kill his wife to gain possession of her livestock, which included goats, sheep, and cows. He said the wife narrowly escaped after she perceived the poison and presumed his plan”.
