A Nigerian man has shared a troubling experience on social media, describing how he and his friends were allegedly harassed, assaulted, and extorted by the police despite having done nothing wrong.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he recounted the ordeal, expressing deep frustration with the state of law enforcement in the country:
“Last night was an eye-opener. This country won’t change unless we start speaking out.”
He detailed how officers allegedly slapped his friend, Kay, who was seated in the front of their vehicle. He and his producers were then forced to kneel by the roadside before being taken toward a police station. However, before reaching their destination, the officers reportedly demanded ₦60,000 from them. Despite searching them and finding no incriminating items, the officers allegedly carried out these actions.
“A bunch of power-drunk beasts. Nigeria, my country,” he lamented.
The post included a video capturing parts of the encounter. As it circulated online, many Nigerians expressed outrage in the comments, condemning the alleged abuse of power and calling for justice.
