Man recounts how he lost a friend to sickle cell disease

Mr Bayo, a Nigerian man, has sparked uproar after recounting how he lost a friend to sickle cell disease, saying that he will never make friends with anyone who has the disease.

Following a debate concerning stigmatization against Sickler, particularly in the context of marriage, an X user identified as @adebayocraig1 expressed his pain.

The topic arose after an influencer posted, “I dont like where this conversation is shifting to. Now we have people questioning why anyone would even decide to marry a sickler. But do we blame them? Everyone is touching different parts of an elephant.”

Mr Bayo answered by revealing his stigma against sickle cell patients, which resulted to the death of a friend despite his best efforts to save her.

Man recalls losing a friend to sickle cell.

“Dickson, if I can’t even make friends with a sickle cell person. Call me whatever name that perfectly qualifies me in your dictionary. Your business.

I see them like a failed project. You try your best to rescue them but your efforts amounts to nothing. I once had one as a Friend.

She would always call at odd hours complaining about one pain or the other. Sometimes, I was available other times i wasn’t.

See it this way, if a normal lady was asking for 50 percent of your attention. A sickle cell lady will ask for 95 percent. Not that alone. She can ask for it at any fucking time.

What are friends for? You have to provide it since you are friends. The truth is taking care of a sickle cell person is draining. At first, you may be cool, later you realize that there is nothing cool in hearing your SS friend is
Feeling cold.

Nothing cool in helping your SS friend to massage her body every non and then. Nothing cool in visiting the hospital almost everytime.

I lost my friend after the little effort I could render, it looked like every effort to make her alive was wasted. That did not even reinforce my stand about them when I heard her family who were no where when she was struggling gave the young man who decided to date serious issue.

So apparent I pulled back from dating her because I knew if I could face what I faced as a friend, I will face more as a lover and I was not ready for that.

So she got herself a lover, he impregnated her and in the process the died. The family showed the guy shege. After a mutual narrated the story of what lead to her death, I knew I was not keeping Sickle cell close to me.
Let them have the nicest character, most beautiful, most charitable, most whatever you can think of. I don’t want to be your friend. Let’s just greet and go.

After going through that dami’s story. Na him fuck up. He go dey Marry person way he no suppose even greet.”
