A Jordanian individual named Osama Bashir Hassan al-Bataynah has been reunited with his family following a 38-year incarceration in Syria.

This information was revealed on Tuesday by Soufian al-Kodat, an official from the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, who indicated that this development occurred after the recent downfall of President Bashar al-Assad.

Al-Kodat mentioned that the individual was discovered in Syria in an unconscious state and suffering from amnesia.

He further noted that the man’s family had reported him missing in 1986 when he was merely 18 years old, and he had remained imprisoned since that time.

“He was transferred from Damascus to the Jaber border crossing (with Jordan) where he was handed over to border guards,” he stated.

It is important to mention that the rebels who ousted Assad from power on Sunday also took the initiative to open prisons and release thousands of detainees.

Civil society organizations have long accused Assad’s regime of engaging in widespread arbitrary arrests, torture, and murder within the prison system.
