A Nigerian man recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to recount a surprising request from a distant family member.
In his post, he shared how this relative, someone he rarely speaks with, contacted him to ask if he could cover her child’s school fees.
The reason given was that he has no children of his own, so he could “afford” it.
Stunned by the bold request, he shared his disbelief and noted that when he informed his father, his father was ready to confront the woman.
The story quickly caught attention online, with many users joining the conversation to discuss the situation and offer their opinions.

@TheLydiaLadej: “Once you start paying for their kids’ school fees or sorting out their expenses, they almost never want you to settle down and face your own family. Once an entitled person, forever an entitled person. They are so going to resent you once you start focusing on your family.”
@im_tolumichael: “Why do some family members do this though? They believe as long as they have the tag ‘family member’, it means access to everything from a fellow family including those they don’t talk to or know anything about them.”
@Gracebal0: “Reminds of that Chinese dude that k*lled his neighbor for always asking him why he wasn’t married. People need to learn to mind their business.”
@Nana_Abekah_: “She’s right tho. If you start practicing paying fees now, by the time it’s your own you’ll be used to it.”
@adamszequi: “Wait what was your reaction though? I’m invested in this story.”
@royal_bobby24: “Someone was asking me for some money. I was already calculating how to move things around a bit when she said, “you don’t have children. what do you even use money for. Lol. I immediately told her I wasn’t giving her anything and cut the phone.”
