A Nigerian woman named Olawande, who lives in Germany, has disclosed her choice to remain child-free, providing her reasoning in an online video.
In the video, she shared that she has been married for three years and frequently receives inquiries from family and friends about when she and her spouse will have children.
Although she loves children and thinks they are cute, she prefers to hand them back to their parents. Her perspective on having kids has been influenced by conversations with mothers who talk about the financial strain, stress, and sacrifices involved in parenting.
“As women, we sacrifice a lot fpor our marriage especially when we have kids. Lets be honest, people don’t just have kids because of the joy they bring but because they feel obligated to societal pressure and family expectations. In many cultures, especially the religious ones, women are raised to believe that their life purpose is motherhood. It is not even a choice, it is what you do and I am not one to follow outdated societal expectation. This is the 21st century, women should be allowed to make their own decisions.”
