Anita Alaire Afoke Asuoha, commonly known as Real Warri Pikin, a Nigerian comedienne and skit creator, has revealed how her failed suicidal attempt owing to massive debt inspired her to pursue a career in comedy.
In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the mother-of-three claimed she was using her situation to inspire others who are facing same difficulties.
She had previously thought of killing herself multiple times between 2017 and 2018 due to a significant amount she and her husband, Ikechukwu, owed.
Real Warri Pikin, who adopted a child named Stella, said that she found comedy to be therapeutic.
She recalled how she used to counsel people who were in debt not to commit suicide because even the government is in debt.
She said; “All the videos wey I dey do that time, no be comedy to make people laugh o, na to motivate people say, Area! Even though you dey owe debt, no worry, Federal government dey owe debt.
“No kill yourself. Take one step at a time. Problems must come.
“I think those things helped me heal like things wey I supposed to myself I go come dey tell [others]. Then I never pay the debt finish o. I go still go cry, come do video.
“Maybe God made me went through what I went through because [He wanted me to be here].”
Real Warri Pikin further said people have been sharing testimonies of how her motivation talks stopped others from committing suicide.
