Afrobeats sensation Emmanuel Adewale, better known as Mayorkun, has revealed that he is contemplating relocating abroad, citing the ongoing challenges in Nigeria as the primary reason behind his decision.
The “Mayor of Lagos” hitmaker shared his plans with his fans on Monday via a post on his X handle, where he wrote, “I dey reason to japa [relocate].”
Mayorkun’s announcement adds to the growing trend of Nigerian celebrities making the move abroad in recent years. Prominent figures such as Tacha, Eldee, Dr. Sid, Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Uche Jombo, and Emeka Ike have all made the decision to relocate outside of Nigeria in the past decade.
In a similar move, last year, veteran artist Banky W disclosed that he had moved to the United States with his family for educational purposes. The increasing number of celebrities choosing to leave the country highlights the difficult circumstances many Nigerians are facing.
