Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, a political activist and fiery Catholic priest and the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, has urged that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), be released unconditionally.
As we had earlier reported ,On June 27, Kanu was apprehended, extradited to Nigeria, and made to face court on June 29and hee is still being held in DSS custody as of July 26.
Mbaka reportedly made the request during a sermon on Sunday, July 11, according to The Nation.
He recommended the Federal Government to tackle with insecurity, poverty, unemployment, herdsmen activities, injustice, and pragmatic nepotism with the same zeal with which Kanu was apprehended.
He reportedly requested Kanu’s release when certain government officers, whom he did not name, came calling with some lucrative offers, which he declined.
“Some persons came to me sometimes ago, that they have two slots for me. I told them I don’t need such offer because I have a slot that I need. They said I should mention what I need,” he began.
My first request was that they should release Nnamdi Kanu because since you people arrested him, we have lost many lives, so of what use is his arrest if after he was arrested, kidnapping hasn’t stopped in the North, thus, arresting him doesn’t solve the problem.
Has anybody seen Nnamdi Kanu kill anybody? He’s not a murderer. Have they caught him with guns, so why arrest him? Where were the nation’s security agencies when several students were kidnapped?”
