Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has commended Chidinma Adetshina for her remarkable achievement as the first runner-up in the 2024 Miss Universe pageant.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the minister lauded Adetshina’s commitment and perseverance, characterizing her success as a point of pride for Nigeria.
Musawa underscored that Chidimma’s performance in the international competition serves as a significant source of inspiration for young women throughout the country to strive for excellence.
“Chidinma’s achievement is a shining example of the creative and innovative spirit that defines our nation, as she remained focused and never gave up during challenging times.
“We are proud to celebrate her success and tenacity, and we recognise the impact she has made on the global stage,” Musawa said.
The minister also emphasized Adetshina’s dedication to women’s empowerment through education and advocacy, aligning her efforts with the ministry’s objectives for a more inclusive creative economy.
“Her commitment to empowering women and girls through education and advocacy aligns with our ministry’s vision for a vibrant and inclusive creative economy,” she added.
Musawa further praised Chidinma’s outstanding representation of Nigeria’s cultural heritage on the world stage, referring to her as a “shining star” and “Nigeria’s pride.”
The grand finale of the 2024 Miss Universe took place at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City on Sunday, where Adetshina secured the second position behind Miss Denmark, Victoria Theilvig, who won the title.
In addition to her runner-up status, Adetshina was awarded the title of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, marking the highest achievement for the continent in the history of the Miss Universe pageant.
Reports indicate that the 23-year-old’s achievements earned her a cash prize of $100,000, a one-year lease on a luxury apartment in New York, a diamond-encrusted crown valued at $3 million, and significant connections to launch a career in modeling and entertainment.
