Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina Appointed as Enugu State Ambassador

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah picked the reigning Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, as the state’s ambassador.

Mbah made the announcement on Thursday while visiting the Government House in Enugu with her father, Okechukwu Onwe, a Nigerian model born in South Africa.

The governor complimented Chidimma’s resilience, emphasising her tenacity and capacity to overcome obstacles, calling her a “true representation of the people of Enugu.”

He emphasised her ability to inspire the youth of Enugu State, particularly young females, via her narrative of endurance.

“Your story is inspiring. Despite attempts to malign and discourage you, you demonstrated that you are a true daughter of Enugu State. You overcame those challenges with the grit and resilience the people of Enugu are known for. You can act as a major influence on our young people, especially girls,” Mbah said.

The governor assured Chidimma of the state’s support as she prepares to represent Nigeria in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant in Mexico. He encouraged her to use her platform to inspire and mentor young people, particularly by sharing her journey and experiences.

In her response, Chidimma expressed gratitude to the people of Enugu for their warm reception.

“I do feel that my story is a very powerful one, not only in Nigeria but all over the world. A lot of youths can resonate with my story and they can learn from my journey,” she said.

Chidimma, born in 2001 in Soweto, South Africa, to a Nigerian father and Mozambican-born mother, faced controversy earlier this year during her participation in Miss South Africa.

Nationality concerns and accusations against her mother led to her withdrawal.

Despite these challenges, she entered and won Miss Universe Nigeria on August 14, 2023, amid criticism claiming she won “out of pity.”

Chidimma firmly defended her victory, emphasizing her hard work and perseverance.

Now serving as the Enugu State ambassador, she aims to inspire and engage with the youth, symbolizing resilience and determination.
