Despite the fact that the Lagos State Police command has been chastised for the events at the Mohbad candlelight march, Tacha opted to praise them in a new video.
The candlelight procession for the late Mohbad took place yesterday, September 21st 2023, and was attended by a number of Nigerians, including superstars such as Davido, Abu Abel, Zlatan Ibile, and Kiekie, among others.
However, justice for Mohbad did not end well during the candlelight parade, as many people were hurt as police officers fired tear gas at the crowd.
Reacting to this, Police debunk the false narratives making the rounds that they killed and injured anyone as they asserted that the Lagos State Police Command had an agreement with the organizers of the candlelight procession that the procession was to end at 8 p.m.
In their words; “It is instructive to note that the Lagos State Police Command had an agreement with the organizers of the candle light procession that the procession was to end at 8pm latest and should terminate at Muri Okunola, Victoria Island. It was clearly stated for avoidance of doubt that in the interest of all Lagosians and considering the heavy use of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, the Lekki Toll Gate would be a no-go area.”
“This persuasion and appeal went on for hours, to which the police and organizers met defiance, both in words and action. At this point, all lanes in and out of Lekki had been totally blocked.
“Therefore, in fulfillment of our mandate to protect life and property, maintain law and order and prevent crimes, we adopted the least harmful method of crowd dispersal, following the failure of verbal persuasion – the use of teargas. Not a single live ammunition was fired!”
Tacha, speaking personally about the occurrence at the Lekki Toll-Gate, praises the Lagos State Police Officers for using tear gas on individuals during the candlelight parade.
She added that the people’s attention has been diverted from the hashtag justice for Mohbad as a result of their refusal to leave Lekki at 8 p.m.
Tacha observed that the participants attempted to turn it into a protest, much like Endsars with the narrative they circulated later that night at the Mohbad candlelight parade.
Captioning the video, Tacha wrote; “Kudos to the Nigerian police.”
