It was discovered that the senators opposed to Akpabio are suspicious of his ability to checkmate what they are labeling the Yorubanization of the nation’s financial system and economy. This suspicion extends beyond their complaints regarding the sharing of Senate committees.
Additionally, it was claimed that the plot to assassinate Akpabio was motivated by his refusal to negotiate with some interest groups over matters pertaining to the elimination of oil subsidies and electricity tariffs.
According to GISTLOVER, two senators from the North West are pushing to impeach Akpabio because they believe he is a rubber stamp for the president and cannot perform his job well.
The Adamawa North senator, Ishaku Abbo, accused Akpabio and his associates of instigating the impeachment narrative to sow discord between President Bola Tinubu and northern politicians. The Senate, through its chairman of the media and publicity committee, Yemi Adaramodu, dismissed the threat of impeachment because the upper chamber is “one united and fraternal family.”.
In the Senate leadership race, he charged Akpabio with giving Grade A committees primarily to his supporters.
Sources told our correspondent that the Senate President was not the only person who was upset about the group’s attempt to remove Akpabio.
The source stated that the main concern is the worry that Akpabio will be powerless to stop the current Yorubanization of the financial system.
In addition to the appointment of Yoruba Ministers in the financial industry and blue economy, the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, claimed that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and Customs, among other institutions, are now run by people of Yoruba ancestry.
Because most of those being removed and replaced with Yoruba are northerners, the source explained, “the Northerners are mostly involved.”
Additionally, it was learned that the senators want to install a senator who they believe will checkmate President Bola Tinubu.
It was also discovered that the senators, who believe they were short changed following alleged agreements on the payment of subsidies to the petrol importers, are working on the issue with some interest.
According to the agreement, importers of gasoline were to be compensated with money obtained from the removal of fuel subsidies within the first two months. It was discovered that the money was used for palliative care intervention.
Some players in the power sector are also alleged to have infiltrated the ranks of the senators. They allegedly came to an agreement for a tariff increase of 40%. According to information obtained, the Senate rejected the agreement on the Senate floor.
