The National Union of Road and Transport Workers, NURTW chairman in Oyo State, Taofeek Ayorinde, a.k.a., Fele is dead, Premium Times reports
Multiple sources in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, confirmed his death on Tuesday evening.
Details of the death still remain sketchy as at press time Tuesday evening.
But the Oyo State government, in a statement by the Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Communication and Strategy, Bolaji Tunji, said it received the news with heavy heart and utter disbelief.
Describing the death of the NURTW boss as a huge loss to the family the state and the Southwest, Mr Ajimobi said that he was particularly pained because he had lost “a dependable ally and purveyor of peace”.
The police are yet to confirm.
Barely one year ago, he had debunked rumours of his death, stating in an interview:
“From those who wished me dead, I have gained one year each from the years they were destined to live on earth.
“I don’t know those who were behind the devilish act, because I don’t think I deserve such. I, Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde, I’m 100 per cent okay, hale and hearty. And not ready to die”
