Nigerian artist Ahmed Ololade, known as Asake, has faced backlash from some Muslims after a Saudi Arabian TikToker, Brother Kareem, criticized him.
Brother Kareem claimed that Asake disrespected Islam by including a significant Quran verse in his song. He also condemned those who use the phrase Alhamdulillah in their music.
On TikTok, @brotherkareem_ posted a screenshot of the lyrics featuring the Quran verse and expressed uncertainty about Asake’s faith but suggested he should be warned.
Brother Kareem noted that some Muslims do not find Asake’s actions offensive, but he argued that disrespecting Allah should not be excused. Asake, a 29-year-old Muslim from Lagos, has previously faced similar accusations.
In the video for his song “Only Me,” he wore a Catholic priest’s outfit, which upset many Christians.
Check out some of the reactions to Brother Kareem’s video below:
@AskMissEllen: “Music is haram in Islam…I don’t think you understand either.”
@LastGee: “Asake please stop doing this, I’m your fan but I hate it when I hear you touching Islam
@ℍ𝕦𝕤𝕙: “I know it’s not acceptable in Islam. Asake is a Muslim as well & am sure he knows.”
@Balikisaduke221: “Even those Islamic musicians are using the Quran to sing not only Asake.”
