My life has been a testimony – Singer Tems

Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems, is a celebrated singer and songwriter from Nigeria who describes her journey to fame.

The singer asserted that although she started out in Lagos, she has since traveled around the world and that her life has served as a “testimony.”

Tems made the remarks while giving a speech at the Essence Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Amid thunderous applause, she said:

“You know, my life is a testimony. I guess, for those who don’t understand, I’m from Lagos, Nigeria”.

Tems rose to fame after a marvelous performance as a guest on Wizkid’s ‘Essence,’ which was included on his album ‘Made In Lagos, after the release of a remix version with Canadian pop star Justin Bieber in 2021.

Recall that Tems has gained international recognition ever since and has won a Grammy

Tems won Best Melodica Rap Performance at the 65th Grammy Awards on February 6, 2023 for her contribution to Future’s “Wait For U,” which also featured Drake.

Award winning Tems, Finally Receives Her Grammy Award Plaque

Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, a Nigerian singer, has finally gotten the highly coveted Grammy trophy plaque for her exceptional achievement in music.

Tems won the prestigious prize for Best Melodica Rap Performance at the 65th Grammy Awards, which were held on February 6, 2023.

Tems’ Grammy-winning effort was a collaboration with renowned singers Future and Drake on the song ‘Wait for U.’

In a gesture of pride, he flaunted the Grammy award plaque without adding a caption, letting the accomplishment speak for itself.

This monumental achievement has placed Tems in the history books as the first female Nigerian artiste to win a Grammy.

It also marks another significant milestone as she became the first female Nigerian singer to receive a Grammy nomination the previous year.

Tems’ nomination in the Best Global Performance category for her hit song ‘Essence,’ a collaboration with fellow Nigerian artist Wizkid, had garnered international acclaim.

Although she narrowly missed out on the award, losing to Pakistan’s Arooj Aftab, it showcased her undeniable talent and propelled her to even greater heights.

The recognition and accolades continue to pour in for Tems, whose soulful and distinctive voice has captured the hearts of music lovers worldwide.

With her groundbreaking achievements, Tems has not only made Nigeria proud but has also become an inspiration to aspiring female musicians across the country.
