Boko Haram terrorists on Friday released footage showing its fighters shooting down a fighter jet mid-air.
The video also showed fighters carrying RPG & artillery equipment, as well as a corpse of the pilot & the aircraft’s debris as gathered in a report monitored by Gistlover on Hum Angle Twitter page.
This is coming at a time the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has declared one of its aircraft lost radar contact on Wednesday while on a mission in the Northeast.
The video, which was released on a Boko Haram social media channel showed a militant standing on what the group alleged to be the wreckage of the jet.
The Nigerian flag and number NAF 475 could be seen on the jet’s fuselage.
“Nigeria air force jet fighter… was sent to Sambisa to fight the Mujahideen,” the militant who appeared in the video said.
It will be recalled that Nigeria’s Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao has arrived in Borno State on Thursday amidst the circumstances surrounding the missing Nigeria Air Force (NAF) fighter jet.
This online news medium had reported that the Nigerian Air Force on Friday said that the Alpha Jet aircraft (NAF475) that went off the radar on Wednesday may have crashed.
The Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet made this known in a statement titled ‘Update On Missing NAF Alpha Jet Aircraft.’
According to the Air Force, the missing pilots are Flight Lieutenant John Abolarinwa and Flight Lieutenant Ebiakpo Chapele.
NAF stated that the whereabouts of the two pilots remain unknown.
As of the time of filing this report, it is yet unclear if the NAF missing jet is the one in the Boko Haram footage and NAF is yet to give an update on its search and rescue mission.
